Jio Cinema, has been making leaps and bounds in terms of acquiring customers and gaining popularity. The app which currently provides IPL streaming for free, has now joined forces with American premium cable and streaming service HBO to deliver award-winning HBO shows to viewers in India. This alliance will enhance Jio Cinema’s entertainment offerings, granting Indian audiences access to renowned television series such as “Game of Thrones,” “Westworld,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Wire.”

Earlier we wrote how, Jio is undergoing a rebranding to JioVoot and will soon start charging users to view the contents. Although it will happen by the end of IPL 2023. It’s a great masterstroke by Jio as after IPL is over, users can enjoy a broad selection of Indian and Hollywood content, on the app itself, while paying minimal subscriptions fees.

This development follows HBO’s withdrawal of its popular shows, including Game of Thrones and Last of Us, from Disney Hotstar in India. These shows are slated to return next month, as Reliance’s Viacom18 has secured an agreement with Warner Bros Discovery for its streaming platform JioCinema.

This deal represents a significant effort by the company to rival Netflix and Amazon by incorporating Hollywood content into the platform. HBO Original, Max Original, and Warner Bros. Television series are scheduled to debut on JioCinema simultaneously with their US premieres.

Viacom18 will reportedly pay over $20 million in annual licensing fees to Warner Bros Discovery for the content. Ferzad Palia, Head of SVOD & International Business at Viacom18, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are now on a mission to build the most magnetic destination for entertainment for all Indians. The strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery is a big milestone in our journey to offer the best of Hollywood content to our elite consumers.”

Jio Cinema Subscription plans are soon to be announced as it has been leaked before with plans starting from ₹2 per day. after a 93% discount, with the original price set at INR 29. Meanwhile, the Gold Plan is anticipated to be priced at around INR 299 but will initially be available to all users for INR 99. The company is also drawing sponsors and advertisers, having partnered with 23 major sponsors. This alliance between Jio Cinema and Warner Bros Discovery marks a significant stride in providing Indian audiences with access to premium content.
